Celebration of Freedom

The rain may have left puddles on the ground but it couldn’t dampen the spirits of those who braved the clouds to attend the Celebration of Freedom gathering at Veterans Memorial Park in Portage on Saturday. For those who attended there was great music, good food, the impressive WWII Traveling Memorial, baseball, face and/or rock painting, and of course, our very own Honor in the Air table, among many other interesting diversions.

No wonder those who braved the elements seemed to have such a wonderful time. What better way to spend a gloomy afternoon than listening in dry comfort to super energetic bands and learning about Wisconsin’s heroic veterans from WWII and Vietnam.

Once again, Honor In the Air co-producer Pamela Fullerton got to share Captain Alwin’s story with many new friends. She was also able to display for the first time the wonderful banner depicting Captain Alwin which was donated by Wausau’s American Legion Post 10.

If you missed it this time, this annual event is well worth putting on your calendar for next year.
